Why Would Anyone Vote Against the People Hurt by Hurricane Sandy?

I need help. Why in the world would only 49 Republicans vote for Hurricane Sandy aid while 179 opposed the bill?

House Sandy Vote
The people and cities hit by Hurricane Sandy were devastated. Every time the South has been hit by a hurricane the Congress overwhelmingly supported aid, regardless of party politics.

Perhaps southern Republicans should remember that when it comes to taxes and transfer payments they are on the taking side while the northeast is on the giving side.

I haven’t seen the multipliers on this kind of aid but I recall the “return on federal investment” due to the Mississippi River’s devastation of Iowa was substantial. Oh, I forgot, logic, math and compassion don’t count among some of our Congressional representatives.

  1. Perhaps, as Congress often does, there was a lot more in that bill. I hate how so many riders can be attached, often having no relevance to the “title” of the bill.
